The Greek island of Zakynthos is a full option destination, ready to satisfy the tastes of any tourist. Taking a detour from East to West, you will discover luxurious resorts that are full with tourists, picturesque seaside towns, then natural landscapes with hard-to-penetrate forests, rocky shores and clear, emerald-colored waters. It is the third largest island in the Ionian Sea and has everything you need for a vacation you never dared to dream of.

If Ios and Kos are known for parties, and Crete and Rhodes for their family atmosphere, Zakynthos chose to elegantly combine the two, adding to all this an extraordinarily beautiful and as pristine natural setting. Imagine that the island is organized in several "neighborhoods", each of them having its own distinct character.

When you feel like having fun, you take a walk to the East, when you want to rest you retreat to the South, and when you feel like having an adventure you go to the West or the North-West. It used to be a mining island, but today it seems to exist only to delight tourists. The island is very close to the Greek coast and has its own airport, so it is very accessible to anyone.

When to visit Zakythos

Summers are very long and hot in this region, so the summer season runs from May to October.

The peak of the season is, of course, in the months of June - July - August, but sometimes the temperatures are high.

For lower prices and a quieter atmosphere, we recommend planning your vacation in September, when the weather is good, the sea water is usually warm.

Airport: Zakynthos Dionysios Solomos International Airport (ZTH)

Dionysios Solomos Airport is 4.3 km away from Zakynthos.

The airport serves both domestic and international flights, as well as charter flights, especially during the summer.

The airport is located near tourist areas such as Kalamaki, Zante, Lagana.

Land transport to and from the airport

To get from the airport to the city or vice versa, you can choose one of the many bus lines of the public transport service.

Local taxi companies serve the airport to provide transportation throughout the island.

Obviously, in the airport there are offices of the most famous rent-a-car companies.

Main attractions

Discover the magic of Blue Caves

You can't miss the Blue Caves, the so-called caves because whatever you dive into their waters they magically become blue.

You can go there with one of the lower boats, and the price is affordable. You can swim and take wonderful photos here.

See the sunset in Bohali

Bohali guarantees the best panoramic views of the island.

Located on top of a hill above the harbor, it was a neighborhood of aristocrats during the Venetian domination and has retained its unique character even today.

If you climb above the old houses, you will discover the ruins of a Venetian castle, the perfect place to see how the sun sets in the sea.

Marine National Park

It covers 135 km2 and is home to countless species of marine animals and plants, some of which are endangered, such as the Caretta turtle.

Caretta turtles are currently one of the oldest living species on Earth, surviving for more than 40 million years.

However, they are in danger of extinction precisely because of the tourists who invade their mating area and destroy their eggs buried in the sand.

Even if the locals and tour operators invite you to "study" or "admire" the turtle colonies, do your best to avoid these activities and not bother them at all.
