Main attractions

Walls and Defense Towers

Since the beginning of the twelfth century, Sibiu has entered a process of fortification. The first fortified wall was built around the current Huet Square. The danger of the Ottoman attacks facilitated these works, so that soon fortifications appeared around the whole city, later strengthened by bastions and making Sibiu the strongest medieval fortress in this part of Europe. The Council Tower has always been a symbol of Sibiu. Its name comes from the function of defense over the entrance gate to the second fortification enclosure, located near the building that housed the City Hall of Sibiu, according to a document from 1324.

Brukenthal National Museum

The museum houses the art collection of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, Governor of the Grand Principality of Transylvania (1777-1787). Over time, the collections have been enriched with new works, and now the 1st and 2nd floors of the palace house one of the most important European art galleries in Romania. ASTRA National Museum Complex is an open-air museum located in Dumbrava Sibiului, which presents a synthesis of the traditional popular civilization on the territory of Transylvania. It is one of the most important museums in Europe, due to the diversity of its cultural heritage and the cultural and educational programs it undertakes.

The bridge of Lies

One of the most important symbols of the city, to which at least three urban legends are linked, all related to the origin of the name given to this bridge. The bridge is said to creak and move when crossed by liars.
