Hints and Tips

• Among the best diving and snorkeling areas in the world, the crystal clear waters of the Maldives are considered.

• The deeper waters are home to sea cats, turtles and the largest fish in the world.

• Watch out for corals! Don't step on them or touch them! Aside from the fact that you can be seriously injured because they are sharp, some of them are dangerous. In fact, their collection is strictly forbidden.

• In the Maldives the US dollar is a strong currency, so it is possible to make certain purchases directly in dollars.

• The Maldives is a predominantly Muslim state, which is why alcohol is banned. The only bars that serve alcohol are in hotels.

• The language spoken is Dhivehi, a combined dialect of Arabic and English.

• The capital Male is among the smallest in the world, both in terms of population and size. Unlike the islands, it is a city of tall buildings and paved roads. There are no beaches here, and architecturally, the Islamic Center is the most representative place in Male

• Medicines needed for travel should be purchased from the country, because a pharmacy is not very easy to find in the Maldives.

• Nudism is strictly forbidden!

• For transfers it is good to negotiate with the owner of a fast boat or a dhoni (wooden boat) to get a better rate.

• The National Museum is hosted by the Sultan's Palace or more precisely by the Palace Garden and is a three-storey Edwardian colonial style building. It contains primarily an impressive collection of objects that have belonged to the sultans over time.

• A visit to this museum is a foray into the history of the place.

• Fish and seafood are abundant on the island.

When to visit the Maldives

The Maldives have a tropical climate with high temperatures throughout the year and a long sunshine. Most of the time the weather is hot and humid, and even during the dry season in December-March, when the monsoon can reach the equatorial islands, the sky remains clear and the water calm.

Main attractions

Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve

A solid argument for the purchase of plane tickets to the Maldives is this reservation of 75 islands, of which only 13 are inhabited. Here you can visit lagoons (30-80 meters deep) and canals (250-300 meters deep), full with over 250 species of corals, 1,200 species of fish and 7 types of turtles.

Old Friday Mosque - Hukuru Miskiiy

The oldest mosque in the country, dating from 1656, Hukuru Miskiiy is known for its unique appearance, interior artwork and wooden sculptures. Don't forget to put in your luggage for the flight to the Maldives some clothes suitable for a visit to such a religious place, not just beach clothes.

Male fish market

Another reason to buy plane tickets to the Maldives is this unique objective, the commercial epicenter of the most important industry in the country, in addition to tourism: fishing. You don't have to be a fan of barracudas or yellowfin tuna to admire the seemingly relentless activity of fishermen.
